The Kia EV9, launched in October 2024 at an introductory price of around Rs 1.30 crore, is Kia India's flagship electric vehicle and, notably, the single most expensive model the brand sells in India across its entire lineup, including all petrol and diesel models. Imported as a fully built unit, the EV9 is a large 3-row SUV seating up to six occupants and powered by a single, large 99.8 kWh battery pack rated for a claimed range of up to approximately 561 km (ARAI), reflecting its position as a genuine full-size luxury electric SUV rather than a mainstream family car. As Kia's halo model, the EV9 exists primarily to establish the brand's credentials at the top end of the electric SUV market, competing against premium imported electric SUVs from other global manufacturers rather than against Kia's own more affordable, domestically built EVs like the Carens Clavis EV or Syros EV. Its size, price and seating configuration place it in a different buyer segment entirely from the rest of Kia's Indian electric lineup, aimed at affluent buyers who want a genuinely large, premium electric SUV bearing the Kia badge.
